Clay Weaver

How did you get started in the fastener industry?

I responded to a job listing in the college career office in 1993 while attending college.

What is the best advice you ever got?

“Remember that your father gave you your name, and it is easier to keep your name intact than it is to ever rebuild it.”

Do you have a personal goal for 2020?

Yes, to lose 30-35 lbs. I've lost 21 so far! I'd also like to bag an elk and whitetail deer with my bow in September.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by my family and my co-workers. I am also inspired by the professionals I get to work with in this industry who have been so successful in their careers and have set the benchmark of success to strive for.

When you were a child, what did you want to be as a grown-up?
At first, I wanted to be a fighter pilot or join the FBI or US Customs. If I had to do it over again I would be a doctor.

What do you do when you're not at work?

I love to spend time with my wife and girls traveling, camping, or any type of vacation. I also love to hunt and shoot my bow, target shooting at the local ranges, scuba, rock climbing, and anything else that keeps me active.

What is your favorite vacation destination?

I don't have a favorite destination; I just like exploring new places and experiencing new cultures, including the food! I love seeing new places, no matter if it's here in the US or overseas.

What TV show did you binge most recently?
I'd have to say Longmire. I don't watch much of anything very often, as I grew up without a TV and still have never owned one. I get often get baffled looks and long pauses when I tell someone that, and even longer ones when I tell them my wife never owned one either. I guess today a smartphone is worse than a TV.

Who is your favorite singer or group?
I don't have a favorite but I listen primarily to country music. I'll listen to just about anything other than rap. I spend most of my time listening to audiobooks on self-improvement, which is obviously not apparent!

Do you have a personal message you'd like to share?
This industry is dynamic, diverse, and filled with some of the best people I have ever met. It has a depth and a breadth that is like no other. It's also an industry where your value to the industry and your organization goes up with age if you apply yourself. That is why so many that find their way into it, not only find it hard to leave, they most often don't want to.
